The legs and arms of the body were sculpted from wax and cast in brass. The blue shell was repousse and enameled with Nitric Blue and cloisonné. The wings were also cloisonné and both of these pieces had a layer of silver foil under the enamel to give more of a shimmer effect. The turquoise in the middle of its back is bezel set along with the enameled sun that it is holding. All pieces are micro-bolted together.
